Perhaps it’s the slow pace of a quarantine era morning, but there’s something about this spring that puts me in the mood to brunch. Inspired by our yellow Instagram theme, and stocked with some fresh lemons, I put my creative ‘juices’ to good use in concocting my favorite, fun, brunch-appropriate delicacy. I opted to for a virgin variety of my go-to brunch drink, but my readers over 21 can be sure to add their favorite vodka to spice things up. This savory meal and paired drink is a crowd pleasing classic. Follow my Virgin Bloody Mary recipe below!
To prepare your Virgin Bloody Mary start with V-8 tomato juice, horseradish, Worcestershire and Tabasco sauce. When it comes to spice level, use your own discretion in deciding how much of which sauces to add. Give your ingredients a good mix in a shaker, or add them to a blender for an even smoother consistency. Rim a chilled glass with fresh lemon juice and some Newport Sea Salt. Garnish with celery for an extra touch!
Pair this invigorating treat with smoked salmon toasties, and you have yourself and an envy-worthy, savory spread. To start, pick your favorite bread and cut it into triangles, then grill or toast. On the side, finely chop up some red onion. Next is the fun part – the power is in the sauce! To prepare my special caper sauce, mix one part Dijon mustard, to one part mayonnaise. Then add 2 heaping tablespoons of capers, a dash of caper juice, and salt and pepper to taste. Layer up your toast with some thinly sliced smoked salmon, a sprinkle of chopped red onion, a dollop of my caper sauce, and a drizzle of fresh lemon – Bon Appetit!
