Strolling the Wharf Holiday Traditions

There’s something about the holiday season that fills me with nostalgia.  Our first December snowfall had my inner sentimentality leading me on a walk along Bowen’s and Bannister’s Wharves.  It was always a tradition of my family to visit the wharf around Christmastime to admire the lights, and take in the stunning waterfront scenery.

Each year my father would take my four siblings and I to Michael Hayes to shop for my mother. After browsing in the December cold we would warm up with a cup of chowder at The Black Pearl.

As fun as the wharves are in the hustle and bustle of the summertime, Bowen’s and Bannister’s truly shine during the holidays.  My morning walk in the flurrying snow on a quiet, empty wharf had my memories swirling; a truly remarkable and wistful holiday moment.
